We’re currently experiencing elevated response times to our service and administrative API. We are investigating right now.

Cloudant Build 1.3.40 deployed

Today we deployed Cloudant build 1.3.40 to all of our shared clusters. In addition to some stability improvements, there are a couple of specific changes we’d like to share:

Switched our JSON parsing to Jiffy (https://github.com/davisp/jiffy) which will improve JSON parsing (i.e. reading and writing documents to the service)
Implemented changes to our clustering algorithm so users can always create/delete databases, even while a node is down.

These changes will help the service be faster and more fault-tolerant. Let us know if you have any questions!

Elevated error rates on Julep, Meritage

Starting at approximately midnight UTC, users have been experiencing elevated error rates on our Julep & Meritage clusters. Our operations team is investigating the issues.

Post-mortem

Issues on Meritage were caused by packet transmission delays affecting the links between several nodes in our cluster. We reconfigured the cluster to avoid these routes.
Errors on Julep were caused by a latent bug affecting DB deletions. We hotpatched the cluster and will be rolling out a permanent deploy on Wednesday.

Elevated error rates on Meritage

We are currently experiencing hardware problems on our Meritage cluster. This will affect database creation and deletion for certain customers. Our engineering team is working on the situation and we will post updates as we learn more.

Update 17:47 EST A networking issue has been identified and reported to the hosting provider.

Update 21:07 EST The networking issue has been resolved. Performance should be consistent again on all clusters.
